Upstage Artists Incorporated Seeks to Bring Theater Arts to the Area

Upstage Artists Incorporated is a theater group founded by five local artists who are seeking to bring theater and theater education to Prince George’s, Howard, and Anne Arundel counties. The group is made up of Spencer Nelson and John Cusamano of Prince George’s County, Lorraine Brooks and Jana King of Anne Arundel County, and Rick Bergmann of Howard County. Their goals are to bring high quality theatre and arts programs to the general population, produce innovative and approachable theatre, as well as provide educational opportunities for teachers and students who wish to be a part of the theatrical arts.

For their first performance, they will be performing a staged reading of Dracula and Mina: A Love Story by John Cusamano. John is a local playwright, director, and actor. It reimagines Bram Stoker’s classic tale as a love story. What would happen if Mina fell in love with Dracula? A staged reading is a performance without sets or costumes to get in the actors’ way. They perform the story through their voice, some movement, and their expressions. The reading will be performed on October 12 at 7 pm at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 11416 Cedar Lane, Beltsville, MD 20705. Tickets are only $10, and there will be light refreshments sold as well.
