The Latest News from Senator Rosapepe's Office: October 2018

Child care subsidies available

Delegates Barbara Frush, Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Ben Barnes, and I were proud to support legislation this year to help with child care expenses in Maryland. The Maryland State Department of Education recently announced annual income limits for Maryland’s Child Care Subsidy (CCS) Program will increase dramatically. For a family of four, for example, that means a leap from $35,702 to $71,525. This translates to 65% of the State Median Income level. This change will help many more families access quality child care and early education programs. We still have more to do to make high quality child care accessible and affordable from birth to PreK, but this is an important start. Home repair program for elderly in need – Nov. 1 deadline

“Christmas in April * Prince George’s County” is a non-denominational volunteer organization that repairs the homes of senior citizens who are low-income and/or physically challenged so they may live in warmth, safety, and independence. After months of planning and preparation, Christmas in April culminates in a one-day repair effort on the last Saturday in April. 78 homes were repaired in 2018 in Prince George’s County, and all repairs are free for the homeowners. The 2019 application, due Nov. 1, is available online at www.christmasinaprilpg.org or call 301-868-0937 with any questions.

100% pro-environment voting record for 2018

The Maryland League of Conservation Voters issued their report on the 2018 legislative session, and Delegates Frush, Peña-Melnyk, Barnes and I were identified as having 100% pro-environment voting records. We made good progress this year – including passing tough new regulations on offshore oil and gas drilling to protect Maryland's shores. But there is much more to be done to fight global warming, combat Chesapeake Bay pollution, and protect our parks and open space right here in our community.
