Obituary: Hall, Robert C.

Robert C. Hall, beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home on March 1, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was 93. Bob was born and raised in Northeast Washington, DC, attending Crosby Noyes Elementary, Taft Jr. High, and McKinley Tech High School. He joined the U.S. Merchant Marine on his 18th birthday, serving on a number of ships sailing to all corners of the world. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea and Japan from 1953 to 1955. Upon returning to his hometown, he met and married Rosario Ramirez in 1958. They settled in Beltsville, raising their three children in a home that reflected their love of both learning and games. Bob eventually returned to the Merchant Marine working as a chief radio officer until his retirement in 1985.

Bob was a baseball enthusiast in his youth, but as anyone who knew him would attest, tennis became his self-taught passion. He could be found almost year-round on local courts, always happy to pick up a game or hit balls with any newcomer. He continued playing almost to the age of ninety.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, James and Emma; sisters, Dorothy and Dolores; and wife, Rosario. He is survived by his children Monica, David, and Kenny; grandchildren Chiara, Antonia, Nathan, Gabriella, Megan, and Justin; sisters-in-law Olga, Norma, and Gladys; and many nephews, nieces, and extended family. He will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Children’s National Hospital.
