An investigation into pre-employment practices in the Prince George’s County Fire Department. Former Chief Tiffany Green has been placed on paid leave while the investigation is taking place. Chief Green retired from her position on July 1and transitioned into the role of county assistant deputy chief administrative officer of public safety. Since transitioning into this role, the hiring practices during her time as fire chief have been called into question.
It was discovered that there were several people recruited into the PG County Fire Department Academy with incomplete background checks. Complete background checks are supposed to be department policy. Deputy chief administrative officer of public safety, Melvin Powell has directed that investigation be done by a separate public safety agency.
County Executive Aisha Braveboy’s office released the following statement once this information was reported, “Tiffany Green, who accepted a new role with the County, had been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into pre-employment practices in the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department.”
At the moment, the academy has paused recruiting until the investigation has concluded.
