Fireworks are Illegal in Prince George’s County
As we approach the Fourth of July, please continue to remind your neighbors and family that all types of fireworks are illegal in Prince George's County. Penalties for violations may include a fine up to $1000 and up to six months in jail. Falling sparks from fireworks done by non-professional entities within the county increase the risk of fire hazards, while excessively loud explosions abruptly awaken sleeping neighbors and terrify their pets. Injuries also often occur from improperly handled fireworks. As a safer alternative, please encourage your friends and neighbors to enjoy a public fireworks display at appropriate designated locations within the Cities of Laurel and College Park. To report firework use, go to http://911.mypgc.us or call 301-352-1200.
High Point High School Project Building Reconstruction Update
On April 9, 2025, a meeting was held to provide updates on the condition of High Point High School’s (HPHS) redevelopment. In 2018, the new plan to redevelop the school was released, aiming to build a new 9th through 12th-grade school on the same site and replace the existing building. This new facility would serve up to 2600 students with state-of-the-art learning spaces and upgraded site amenities. As reported on Prince George’s County Public School (PGCPS) website, the expected construction would begin in 2026, and the project would be completed in 2030.
