Is It Time For Beltsville To Be Incorporated?

Beltsville is one of the last unincorporated towns in Prince George’s County. We do have, of course, the County Council and our District representative and our state folks (whom we deeply appreciate for all of their work!), but we don’t have anyone who is boots on the ground, specifically for Beltsville. Laurel does, College Park does and Greenbelt does.

With encroachment from both College Park and Greenbelt and the threat of BARC being seized by the federal government, I believe the time has come for Beltsville to stand on our own two feet, with a city council and a mayor.

Beltsville used to have a civics society and then more recently Residents for a Better Beltsville. I believe we need a full-time organization to advocate for our town and (hopefully) eventual incorporation.

I realize everyone has at least 22,567 items on their plates (me included!) but this matters. We deserve to live in a town where we are respected and not where local sister cities council members joke about annexing us into their town. Beltsville is one of the oldest towns (the B & O Railroad actually named our town!) in the area and our history matters.

Our people matter.

We will also ask our registered voters to sign a petition to incorporate Beltsville. We welcome any residents and organizations to join.
