Kitty Post: Become a Hero for Cats in Our Community

Every day in our neighborhoods, community cats face challenges most of us can’t imagine — finding food, braving the elements, dodging cars, and struggling to survive without the comfort of a safe home. At Beltsville Community Cats (BCC), we’re working hard to change that story. Through our Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) program, rescue and adoption efforts, and colony support activities, we are making a real difference for cats in Beltsville and the surrounding communities. But the truth is, we can’t do it without you.
Volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s feeding colony cats, trapping and transporting the cats for vet care, fostering kittens, assisting with fundraising and special events, responding to grant announcements, or helping with administrative duties, each volunteer plays a vital role in saving lives. No special experience is required — just a willingness to help and a love for cats. We’ll provide guidance, training, and support every step of the way.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering with us is more than just lending a hand—it’s being part of a community that believes in compassion. You’ll get to experience the joy of knowing that you made a direct impact, whether it’s watching a once-frightened kitten blossom into a playful companion or ensuring a colony cat never goes hungry.
Our volunteers often tell us that helping the cats gives them more than they expected: a sense of purpose, new friendships, and plenty of “kitten therapy.” In a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming, being part of this work reminds us that small acts of kindness truly matter.
Ways to Get Involved:
Colony Care: Help feed and monitor feral colonies who don’t have caretakers and depend on BCC volunteers daily.
Fostering: Provide a safe, temporary home for kittens or friendly cats until they’re adopted. A life-saving experience for the kitten, a life-changing experience for you!
Transporting: Drive cats to and from vet appointments, foster homes, or adoption events.
Behind the Scenes: Use your skills in communications, fundraising, or administration to keep our programs running.
Event Support: Staff our table at community events and educate the community about our mission and services.
Regardless of your schedule or skill set, we will try to find a place for you on our team. Even a few hours a month can make a huge difference. When you volunteer with BCC, you’re not just helping cats — you’re giving them a second chance at life. Together, we can create a community where every cat is cared for and valued. AND, volunteering is good for the soul!
