In Loving Memory of Ludwig Adolph Schneider
July 25, 1936 – July 6, 2025
Ludwig (Ludy) Adolph Schneider, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at his home on July 6, 2025, just weeks shy of his 89th birthday. A longtime resident of Beltsville, Maryland, Ludy lived a life rooted in love for family, nature, and quiet devotion to service.
He was born on July 25, 1936, to Adolf and Ida Schneider in Steinfurt, Germany. He graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School and pursued studies in horticulture at the University of Maryland. His passion for plants and the natural world led to a fulfilling career with the National Park Service, working at the White House grounds, where he found purpose and joy in preserving the beauty of the outdoors.
Ludy served his country with honor in the United States Army from July 1959 to July 1961, a commitment he held with quiet pride throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wives, Kitty Lou Schneider and Patricia Schneider; his parents, Adolf and Ida Schneider; and his brother, William (Bill) Schneider. His memory is also cherished by Bill's wife, Shirley Schneider.
Ludy is survived by his son Jeffrey Schneider and daughter-in-law Melissa; his daughter Sharon Baxley and son-in-law Rob. He was a proud grandfather to Katie Nelson, Robbie Baxley, Jenna Schneider, and Hayley Goodloe, and a doting great-grandfather to Reagan and Beau Nelson.
A man of deep simplicity and quiet joys, Ludy found happiness tending his greenhouse, camping under the stars, spending time with his companion, Jeanette Hawk, and being surrounded by the laughter of loved ones. His legacy lives on in the gardens he nurtured and the family he loved so dearly.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Funeral service was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11007 Montgomery Road, Beltsville, MD on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Interment was held at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
