The Women's Community Club of Beltsville adopted the road along Montgomery Road between Route 1 and Sellman Road in 2005 as part of the counties Adopt A Road Program. The Program is a collaboration between the Department of Public Works and Transportation and civic or business organizations to help keep County roadways clean and free of trash. Past President Elaine Chabot organized the project along with past members Carolyn Scarcia, Nancy Thrush and Helen Akers. Mrs. Scarcia, Mrs. Thrush, and Mrs. Akers helped pick up trash well into their 70’s according to current member Karen Coakley. Organizations that adopt a road are required to hold four cleaning events per year. We are very grateful to the ladies of the Women’s Community Club of Beltsville for keeping our roads clean for the last 20 years.
