James (Jim) Kelly, 86, of Beltsville, MD, passed away at home on August 10, 2017. He was born December 2, 1930, in Albemarle, NC, to the late DeWitt B. Kelly and Gladys Cooper Kelly. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Weltie Burke Kelly of Front Royal, VA; daughter, Carolyn Kelly Sproul, and spouse, William Eben Sproul, of Severn, MD; son, Thomas Lee Kelly, and spouse, Dolly Ann Kelly, of Eldersburg, MD; grandchildren, Robert Kelly, and spouse, Amy Kelly, Lisa DiSimone and spouse, Matthew DiSimone, Emily Kuester and spouse, Evan Kuester, Dana Sproul and spouse, Amy Sproul; and great-grandchildren Matthew and Anthony DiSimone; sister Mildred Ann Andrew of Albemarle, NC. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Joe DeWitt Kelly of New London, NC, and sister Margaret K. Macho. Jim attended the University of North Carolina and upon completion of an enlistment in the U.S. Army, assigned to the Signal Intelligence Service. Jim spent his career serving at the Department of Defense. Jim was a masterful gardener, loved the Redskins and UNC basketball, and always looked forward to a day crabbing with family on the Wye River. Funeral service was held at Borgwardt Funeral Home on Sunday, August 13, at noon with the Reverend J.D.
