On The Agenda: May 2018

The Citizen's Association will not meet in May. I encourage everyone to attend Councilwoman Mary Lehman's Town Hall at the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Center on Wednesday, May 16th. The May/June meeting of the Citizen's Association will be on Tuesday, June 5th at 7:00 p.m. at Beltsville Academy, 4300 Wicomico Ave, Beltsville, MD 20705. We will have a presentation for a proposed "Medical Marijuana" facility. The proposed site is in the shopping center on the northbound side of Route One just after Powder Mill Road and across from the CVS Shopping Center.

Theft from Auto continues to be a problem in Beltsville. PLEASE lock your cars and remove valuables. Have you signed up for "Nextdoor" to receive community updates? Go to www.nextdoor.com then enter your address to find your neighborhood. Now here are a few updates.

I have received questions about the “Democratic Candidate Forums.” We will be hosting another event in the fall. The three candidates with the most votes in each party will move forward to the general election in November. There are 2 Republican Candidates and one "Unaffiliated" candidate for the House of Delegates for District 21. They automatically move forward to the general election. There are six Democratic candidates. The 3 with the highest votes will move forward to the general election. We fully intend to invite all who will be on the November ballot to a forum this fall. 2018 is an election year; Please take the time to learn about the candidates. The primary is June 26th.

I hope to see you at the various community meetings in May and June. Don’t forget Beltsville Day on Sunday, May 20th at the Beltsville Community Center. Remember to bring a friend, bring a neighbor. If you have questions or concerns contact me at 301.937.3490 or karenmcoakley@msn.com.
