Maryland’s 2019 Chef of the Year Hosts Christalis Fundraiser and Competes in a Cooking Challenge wit

Ashish Alfred, recently named Maryland’s 2019 Chef of the Year by the Maryland Restaurant Association, is hosting a fundraising event at his restaurant, George’s Chophouse, in Bethesda on May 19, 11 a.m. for the local nonprofit Christalis. Chef Ashish, who was recently on the Today Show, will participate in a cooking challenge with local radio host of WGTS 91.9 FM, Jerry Woods, and then host a cooking relay for guests to show off their own kitchen skills. This fundraiser will include small bites, drinks, door prizes for the first fifty guests to arrive, and a silent auction for Christalis projects. Auction items include a week stay at Martha’s Vineyard, a vacation package to Cancun, Apple Airpods, Gym class passes, and other items donated by local businesses such as TrueBodyFit Bethesda, CHAOS hair salon, and Urban Boxing Club. All proceeds go towards Christalis’s projects in Uganda. Registration is $15 for those pre-registering online at Christalis’s website www.christalis.org/silent-auction or $20 at the door. Contact Bluann Faber at silentauction@christalis.org for questions and more information about the event. Since 2005, Christalis’s mission has been to provide love, shelter, education, and support to children who are victims of various injustices in southwestern Uganda.
