Emmanuel UMC to Hold Annual Blessing of the Animals on October 9 at 10 am

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you

-Job 12:7

Animal blessing is a special ceremony conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures. St. Francis considered animals to be his brothers and sisters, saying, “All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures.” For many people, a pet is a member of the family. Animals experience emotions such as happiness, love, fear, or loneliness just like people do. Therefore, they build close emotional bonds with human beings.

Join the members of Emmanuel and the surrounding community on Oct. 9 at 10 am on the front lawn of Emmanuel with your pet, your foster pet, or a picture of your pet. Reverend Andrea M. King will bless your animals during this special service. If you have any questions, please contact the office at 301.937.7114 or office@eumcbeltsville.com today. Emmanuel is located at 11416 Cedar Lane, Beltsville, MD 20705.

The Beltsville Young at Heart

by Lois Hamilton, President

It was good to see so many people at the September meeting. Our October meeting will be a potluck. Bring whatever you want to share but be at the Community Center by 10:30 am so we can set up before the regular meeting starts at 11:00.

The November 17 meeting will be a Thanksgiving Gala that we have once a year. We eat a catered meal of Filet Mignon Roast (no turkey) at the First United Methodist Church in Laurel. We will have entertainment by the “Having Fun” group, along with a raffle and 50/50 chance to win some items or money. Cost is $17.50 for guests. Members with paid 2022 dues are free. Deadline to sign up is November 13. It promises to be a terrific get-together. If you would like more information, call me at 301-498-9736. Remember, “Friends help us over the bumps in this journey of life.”
