Memorial Day– A Day of Remembrance for Our Military Heroes By Ivy Christoffers

Updated: Jun 24, 2021

Memorial Day is a day set aside to pay honor to those men and women who gave their all in defense of our country. This day sees ceremonies conducted throughout the country with pageantry, special speakers, laying of wreaths, and the wearing of poppies, the flower of remembrance. The little red crepe paper poppy is distributed throughout the communities to schools, local government officials, and military hospitals and armed forces bases. Our local ceremony will take place in College Park at the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Greenbelt Road at our veteran’s memorial at 11:00 am on the last Monday in May. Lunch will follow at the American Legion Post Home, 9218 Baltimore Ave. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The post is finally open for business again. It has been a long hard year for us, just as it has been for everyone. Friday night dinner dances have resumed, and friends are once again enjoying meet and greets while listening to and dancing to great music.

Remember, school will soon be over for this year and more children will be out and about so keep alert when driving the local roads.

Keep our troops in your prayers and continue to seek God’s blessings on our precious America.
