Marisol Belen "Mody" (Ponte) Hammond December 30, 1977 ~ March 5, 2023 (age 45)
Marisol Belen Hammond, nee Ponte, age 45, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at her home in Millsboro, Delaware.
Mody, as she was known to family and friends, was loved for her generous heart and free spirit. She was always ready to offer a helping hand or an encouraging word. She loved daffodils, the color yellow, and the beach; in her free time, she would drive her beloved Jeep onto the sandy coast and spend hours fishing, swimming and collecting shells, bits of coral and shark's teeth.
She was a 1995 graduate of High Point High School. She earned a B.S. degree in Animal Science from the University of Maryland. She translated her degree and her lifelong love of animals into a career in veterinary medicine, working as a skilled technician in emergency services, surgical procedures and routine care.
Mody is survived by her daughter Winter Hammond, of New Orleans, LA; her loving parents, Victor and Teresa Ponte, longtime residents of Beltsville, MD; a brother, Victor Ponte III of Greenbelt, MD, and a sister, Angela Ponte, of Brooklyn Park, MD. She also leaves behind a niece, Cambria Carroll, and a nephew, Kai Ponte, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, March 16th, at 1:00 p.m. at Borgwardt Funeral Home in Beltsville, MD. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share their memories of Mody. In lieu of flowers, Mody would have loved donations in her name to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, BVSPCA.ORG, in Georgetown, DE.
