On The Agenda: April 2021 By President Karen M. Coakley

Updated: Apr 30, 2021

The next virtual meeting of the Beltsville Citizen's Association will be on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 pm. Details for the meeting will be posted on the Beltsville News Facebook Page and Nextdoor.com. Our guest speaker will be representatives from the Berman Enterprises and Kennedy Krieger Institute. Berman Enterprises own the old Beltsville Elementary School located at the intersection of Powder Mill Road and Cedar Lane. They intend to lease approximately 39,000 square feet of space at its existing 111,000 square foot building at the above address to Kennedy Krieger Institute (“KKI”) for operation of a private school, inasmuch as the zoning ordinance requires approval of a DSP, regardless of the existing building. The primary change to the existing property will be use of a portion of the parking lot to provide an outdoor play area. Although the initial student population is expected to be less than 100, Berman will design the playground for a maximum of 120 students.

Community issues and concerns

I have received emails and phone calls recently asking who you should call to report various issues. 911, Non – Emergency Dispatch and PGC311 allow the following: 1) You can place a report anonymously. 2) Request a case number or report number. You will need the case number to follow up if the issue has not been resolved. If you call the police about a problem in your neighborhood and you want to know if they answered the call you need to make a request that they come to your home.
