Women’s Community Club Helps Keep Beltsville Beautiful Through Cleanup Effort

Members of the Women’s Community Club of Beltsville recently rolled up their sleeves to help keep the community clean as part of the Adopt-A-Road and Adopt-A-Creek programs.

On April 25, volunteers spent several hours picking up litter along Montgomery Road, covering the area from the library and Sellman Road to the parking lot at the bottom of the street, as well as the entrance near the community center and the area beneath the bridge. The group was joined by county employee Robert, who assisted with the cleanup effort.

In addition to the roadside cleanup, members also walked along the nearby creek collecting trash.

Thanks to this year’s drought conditions, volunteers were able to travel much farther upstream than usual. Along the way, they were treated to a rare sight — a group of sea lampreys building a nest in the creek.

The cleanup effort is part of the club’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and keeping the Beltsville community beautiful.
