Lomax Sisters Celebrate Fifty Years of Music Ministry

The Lomax Sisters

In the lyrics of gospel artist, the late André Crouch,

Take me back, take me back dear Lord

To the place where I first received you.

Take me back, take me back dear Lord where I

First believed . . .

On a warm “Indian Summer” evening in 1968, a hush falls over the members of the Queen’s Chapel United Church congregation as four sisters step up to the microphone and begin to sing “We’ve Come this Far By Faith” acapella. Fast forward to 2018 and the four siblings—Sharon, Valda, Dorothea, and Lolethia—are still singing and praising the Lord in song. On Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 4:00 p.m., in the place where they started their spirit-filled musical journey—Queen’s Chapel United Methodist Church—the Lomax Sisters will be holding a Golden Jubilation Anniversary concert, celebrating fifty years of music ministry.

Lifetime Beltsville residents, in their five decades of music ministry, the Lomax Sisters have performed at numerous churches and other social events throughout the DMV. In 1984 the sisters competed in “The Kentucky Fried Chicken Gospel Competition, taking home first prize in the ensemble category. From the beginning of their journey, they received encouragement and support from their parents, family, friends, and church family. Please join them for this celebration of praise and thanksgiving.
