Let me know if you need help.

With the recent federal government shutdown, rising prices, and continued attacks on federal workers and immigrants, many families in Beltsville are suffering. Delegates Joseline Pena-Melnyk, Ben Barnes, Mary Lehman, I, and our staffs are ready to be of assistance. We can’t solve every problem but will try to find you help you need. Just contact me at the email or phone number at the bottom of this column.

Maryland health insurance exchange opens through January 15.

If you have a private health plan through Maryland Health Connection, you can renew or change your plan through January 15, 2026. You also can shop and enroll in a 2026 health plan at MarylandHealthConnection.gov.

There are many ways to enroll. If you need help registering, trained experts are available to help you sign up for a health plan. Go to MarylandHealthConnection.gov to find free assistance near you. Get free help by enrolling by phone or in person. Again, this year, Maryland Health Connection offers Broker Connect. You can talk to an authorized insurance broker in 30 minutes or less. A broker will call you to discuss your private health plan options.

Senior Call Check Available to Maryland Residents.

Are you home alone? Would you like someone to check in with you daily? If you do not pick up after three attempts, the service will call an alternate person on your behalf to check on you. You must have an active landline or cell phone to participate in the program. Sign up online here or by phone at 1-866-502-0560.

How to help the state clean up highway litter.

Highway maintenance is a year-round effort and priority of the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA). Litter removal is a significant aspect of MDOT SHA’s highway maintenance program. Litter comes in many forms, is ugly and a hindrance to other maintenance activities. It can be dangerous to highway users and highway crews; it is harmful to our waterways. Learn more about MDOT Litter Pickup Program and request litter removal at https://roads.maryland.gov/mdotsha/pages/index.aspx?PageId=358
