Rebuilding High Point High School
For years, Delegate Lehman, Delegate Peña-Melnyk, Delegate Barnes, Councilman Tom Dernoga, and I have been fighting to build a new High Point High School. Now, as a result of our efforts, it’s part of the PGCPS Capital Improvement Program. The plan involves replacing the current high school and building a new facility that can accommodate up to 2,600 students.
PGCPS is currently seeking approval for new opportunities for students through Career and Technology Education (CTE) programs that would be offered at the new school.
Given the scale and impact of this project, your voice is important to us. As the project progresses, Prince George’s County Public Schools will continue to hold public meetings that allow for feedback and input. The next project update meeting is currently scheduled for Fall 2025.
Beltsville Fire Department
We’ve been working for over a year to keep the BVFD open to protect our community. The good news is that our new County Executive, Aisha Braveboy, is working with us and Councilman Dernoga to maintain the services Beltsville needs and to upgrade the firehouse. The plan is not yet concluded, but we’re optimistic that we can ensure Beltsville remains protected. I’ll keep you posted.
Helping Federal Workers
For Beltsville residents impacted by the federal government shutdown, a wide variety of resources are available at both the local and state levels. Prince George’s County has a webpage with resources for federal employees who are currently furloughed. For more information, please visit mypgc.us/fedgovshutdown.
Additionally, the Maryland Department of Labor offers several programs for federal workers, including loans and unemployment insurance. More information about these programs can be found at labor.maryland.gov/federalworkers/. Please reach out to our office if you need assistance accessing any of these resources.
