Baking Powder Biscuits
In a medium-size bowl, place
1 stick of butter (room temp)
1 1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 full teaspoon baking powder
Stir with spoon (wooden is best) until all is mixed well.
Now,
Stir in 1/2 cup cold milk and make it into a dough
Mix it well
Dump it on a floured table
Knead like bread dough until smooth
Cover and let it rest
Prepare a small pan coated with butter so the biscuits won’t stick to the pan. This is the most important step.
This mix will make 4 biscuits. Each should be 3/4 inches thick. Place them close together but not touching in the pan along with scrap. Bake for approximately 12 minutes. The bottoms should be tan.
Come on, now: do I need to tell you to use an oven glove when handling a hot pan? YES, I know you have seen this formula before, but maybe you will try it. Making great biscuits is simple and easy. The only tip I have is to make them all 1 inch thick with a 2" cutter.
I have written a lot about my new home, Riderwood. But my heart and mind are still in Beltsville. I miss all my friends there, but I have gotten a lot of new readers here, so to increase readership, I have written more about my new home.
I have received several letters lately including one complaint about my fruit cake. The lady said it was dry. That's one complaint I never heard before. All the recipes I write about are class tested. But please, if you have a complaint or question, write me bill@bakerbill.net or go to my web page, bakerbill.net. Better still, just write me. I answer all mail. But I 'm not on any social media—NONE. Many people have wanted to be friends, but I do not trust all of them (the systems, not the people).
Now, stop overthinking the recipes and try the biscuits, and if you have comments or questions, write and tell me about them.
Well, that's all for now.
Try the biscuits!
