Genealogical Society Hosts Talk on Relocating Cemeteries by Barbara Hopkins
Updated: 4 days ago
Wed., Sept. 6 at 7 PM, the Prince George’s County Genealogical Society will present “Lessons Learned from a 'Relocated' Cemetery: Columbia Baptist/Simon Hill Cemetery, Bladensburg,” a talk by Jennifer Stabler, archeologist with the M-NCPPC. We meet at Kenhill Center, 2614 Kenhill Dr. in Bowie. Guests are welcome and there is no charge.
This African American cemetery was the subject of recent archeological work by the Maryland State Highway Administration prior to planned development of the site. The "Lessons Learned" may be applied in other cases of cemetery relocation, sometimes encountered when doing genealogical research in metropolitan areas.
