UpStage Artists, Beltsville’s premiere theater group is back with its 10th production, The 39 Steps! Do you like a good mystery? How about a hilarious comedy? What happens if you add the two of them together? You get “The 39 Steps,” a play that has been described as Hitchcock meets Monty Python!
According to stageagent.com, “the show hurtles a notorious fugitive and a spellbound blonde from a London music hall north by northwest to Scotland’s most remote highlands. Will they save Britain from a den of devious spies? A cast of four actors plays over 150 characters in this fast-paced tale of an ordinary man on an extraordinarily entertaining adventure. The 39 Steps contains every single legendary scene from the award-winning movie — including the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the escape on the Forth Bridge, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the sensational death-defying finale in the London Palladium.”
This is UpStage’s 10th production and is directed by Rick Bergmann and stars local actors Joey Rolandelli, Nancy Somers, Colleen Isaiah, and Neil Swanson-Chrisman (last seen as Teddy Roosevelt in UpStage Artists production of Arsenic and Old Lace). This promises to be one of the funniest shows that UpStage has put on yet. Come out and join them for a hilariously fun time.
The 39 Steps is a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is a show packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance!
